Aspen awoke slowly, her head throbbing, the fear still present and simmering just under the surface of her skin. A new, stronger sensation engulfed Aspen’s body, only not as daunting as the fear that still held her body captive.

Looking around, Aspen realized she was in a dungeon with two tiny windows high above her to allow fresh air to enter. The door was solid heavy metal. Her ankles were encased with thick silver cuffs attached to long chains linked to the stone wall behind her, effectively ensuring that she didn’t move past the length of the chain in either direction. A damp dirt floor clung to her legs and the air hung heavy with a musty smell despite the windows above. Fiona was chained to the wall across from her, flat on her back. The rise and fall of Fiona’s chest assured Aspen she was breathing though not awake. Aspen sent up a prayer of thanks—to who she didn’t really know—that they had survived the blue mist assault. Aspen tested the chains, finding the cuffs securely fastened to her ankles with no give. Someone didn’t want an attempt at escape. Crushed under a wave of nausea, Aspen whimpered as another vision flashed before her. This time, a group of women and men locked tight in a circle, chanting something unfamiliar to Aspen’s ears. This time, her stomach rumbled violently and Aspen lost the contents of the tea in the dirt beside her.

“You poor dear. I hope your surroundings aren’t making you sick.”

Startled, Aspen turned toward the sound of the voice. A staggeringly beautiful woman with a kind expression stood near the stairs, a sympathetic look on her face. Her long blonde hair curled softly down her back as she practically floated toward Aspen. A blue gown hung close-fitting over her tall, statuesque figure and Aspen’s mind flickered to life as the images she’d experienced a few days earlier of a woman in blue rushed back to mind. When the woman smiled, Aspen felt a softening love toward her unlike anything she had experienced or remembered to experience before. It was a warm, serene feeling that stole over Aspen like a cozy blanket. Aspen became instantly on guard. She didn’t
